Global evangelist Reinhard Bonnke has passed away today at the age of 79.

The German-born founder of Christ for all Nations (CfaN) has preached to millions around the world, but is most well known for his crusades in Africa.

A pastor’s kid, Bonnke accepted Jesus Christ at 9 years old and received his call to missions even before he was a teen.

Bonnke is no stranger to Singapore, having preached to thousands here at the old National Stadium in the decade following the 1978 Singapore Billy Graham Crusade. He has since returned on many occasions, with his fire for the Lord leaving an impact on many pastors, evangelists and those growing in the faith

In a blog post, Pastor Yang Tuck Yoong of Cornerstone Community Church called Bonnke his “hero in the faith”, describing how his life was changed when he first met Bonnke as a young pastor.

An announcement on Bonnke’s Facebook page by his wife Anni and family at 9pm (Singapore time) read: “It is with sorrow that the Bonnke Family would like to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 7, 2019.

“For the past 60 years he has preached the glorious Gospel of Jesus throughout the entire world. We want to thank you on behalf of him and our family, for your kind love and unwavering support, which enabled him to preach the matchless message of salvation to countless people.”

“He preached Jesus…”

Last month, Bonnke had shared a personal prayer request on his page, saying that he had just undergone a right femur bone surgery. While the operation was a success, he added that he would need to spend a few weeks to learn to walk again.

Addressed to his prayer partners, he said: “My spirit is rejoicing, especially when I think of you. I have been able to pray for you and your very many needs and am asking you to pray for me now. I will read every reply and thank you in anticipation and in the Name of Jesus.”

He signed off the request saying: “Pressing towards the mark with jubilation. Your fellow laborer in Christ, Reinhard Bonnke.”

Just two weeks ago, Bonnke had also just celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary with his wife, Anni.

“Hitherto has the LORD helped us,” he had said. “… As you know, we love the Lord dearly and follow Him till the race is done.”

The family has kindly requested that well-wishers make a donation to Christ for all Nations – Africa Crusade instead of sending flowers.
